Dr Melanie Lamden completed a Bachelor of Science at Monash University in 1997 specialising in Pharmacology and Physiology. She then went on to attain first class honours for her Bachelor of Science Honours degree thesis on the effects of chronic ACE inhibition on the vascular reactivity of the kidney. In 2005 Dr Lamden completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Melbourne University.

Dr Lamden began her medical career in 2005 as an intern at Austin Health in Melbourne. She was then a medical resident at Southern Health with rotations including Oncology, Geriatric Medicine, Gastroenterology, Paediatric Emergency and General Medicine. In 2008 she commenced work as General Resident at Southern Health with rotations including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Geriatrics and Intensive Care. In 2009 she began her General Practice training through the Victorian Metropolitan alliance and in 2011 completed her Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Throughout the following seven years Dr Lamden worked in a number of roles that specialised in aged care. This included working at Fountain Gate Medical Centre where she focused on general practice with an emphasis on aged care at local aged care facilities and community palliative care. She then spent two years working at Bupa Aged Care Services in Berwick as the resident GP managing over 100 residents with a focus on aging and palliating in place, reducing polypharmacy and antipsychotic use and unnecessary hospital admissions. From 2015 – mid 2017 Dr Lamden undertook part time roles as resident GP at the Kyneton and Ballarat Aged Care Facilities and at the Coliban Medical Centre in Kyneton. In July 2017 Dr Lamden commenced a role at Neal Street Medical Clinic consulting and providing medical care to aged care residents across local facilities.

With her passion for aged care Dr Lamden is excited to be part of the Aged Care GP team. She has seen the difference it makes when GPs work in partnership with aged care facilities to provide continuity of high-quality medical care to residents, and loves being part of an organisation dedicated to providing this world leading model of care.
