Dr Farhan Ulbaq completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Sind Medical College University of Karachi, Pakistan in 1999 and after spending the following three years working in a number of roles in Pakistan including Senior House Officer at the Al Mehrab Cancer Hospital moved the UK where he qualified for MRCGP in May 2011 and a Diploma in Sexual Health and Family Planning in January 2013.
Dr Ulbaq began his UK medical career in Accident and Emergency for the Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham in 2003. Over the following six years he worked in Senior House Officer roles at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics and Department of Respiratory Medicine, at the Royal Cornhill Hospital in the Department of Psychiatry, and at the Queen Elisabeth Hospital London in the Department of Paediatrics.
In 2009 Dr Ulhaq became a full time GP Registrar at Blackheath Standard Practice in London being responsible for the clinical care of the Intermediate Care Unit for elderly patients. Over the following seven years he worked as a GP for a number of practices in the UK. More recently this included working as a locum for Care UK Luton as an out of hours GP, carrying out base triage telephone consultations, face to face consultations and carrying out home visits. As well as a GP for Moorland Gardens Rehabilitation Unit working as a locum GP at the Moorland Gardens Rehabilitation unit in Luton under Virgin Healthcare. This role involved working in a multidisciplinary team focused on the rehabilitation of elderly patients following acute hospital admission, as well as dealing with the clinical management of patients who suffered a recent stroke, fall or orthopaedic procedure.
After a number of years working with older patients and seeing the difference you can make through a holistic and multidisciplinary approach appropriately tailored to this patient group, Dr Ulhaq is excited about joining the Aged Care GP team and providing GP care to aged care facilities here in Melbourne.
Since qualifying as a GP Dr Ulhaq has completed a number of other courses including Minors Surgery, Genetics for Primary Care, Management of Drug Misuse, Clinical Radiology and Advanced Life Support.
Dr Ulhaq as a special interest in joint injections, minor surgical procedures (incision and drainage of abscess, skin suturing, cryo surgery and epidermal cysts excision.
When he is not working Dr Ulhaq enjoys fishing and swimming and has a lifelong passion for cricket, recently establishing is own team here in Melbourne.
Dr Ulhaq is fluent in Urdu, and some Punjabi and Hindi.
